Public Safety Diver Course
Public safety diving requires special training & the right mindset. Created by one of the most well-known leaders in the industry, the PADI Public Safety Diver course will teach the fundamental skills required to work as a public safety diver or assist local authorities. Through scenario practice in real-world environments, gain experience as the primary diver, safety diver, dive supervisor, & in a surface support specialist role.
You do not need to be part of a public safety dive team to take this course.

What to expect in this course:
Public safety diving is far from any recreational experience you’ve had. Working as part of a team, you’ll work to define, plan, & execute missions of varying types. You’ll learn rope-pull signals, conduct arc searches, use cutting tools, & practice self-rescue. You’ll also participate in realistic public safety diving scenarios such as underwater body recovery.

What you will learn:
- Size up & manage an emergency scene
- Rescue & recover victims
- Vehicle-related victim rescues
- Tactile communication techniques using ropes
- Disorientation drills
- Conduct an arc search
- Limited visibility diving
- Search for missing vehicles underwater
Course Requirements:
Public Safety Diving course prerequisites:
- Minimum age is 18
- Advanced Open Water & Rescue diver certifications
- Approved diver medical form
- Liability waiver
Gear requirements:
- Standard scuba gear (regulators, BCD, weights, tanks, computer – rentals available).
- Personal scuba gear (mask, fin, snorkel, boots – student must provide).
- 2 different cutting devices, visual & audible signaling devices, rescue breathing mask (“pocket mask”)
- (Optional) Dry suit, full face mask (along with accompanying certifications)
Class requirements:
- Satisfactorily complete the online learning course with a test score of 80% or higher
- After instructor remediation, a test score of 100%
- Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution
- Satisfactorily complete the online learning course
- Complete all open water requirements safely & efficiently
- Upload a photo to the certifying agency website (no hats or sunglasses)
Time Requirements:
- 6 – 8 hours for online learning
- 2 days of instructor led surface & in-water training
